Well folks, I’m pleased to announce that iconic actress, comedienne, and activist Lily Tomlin will host the Los Angeles premiere of the much-anticipated Carol Channing: Larger than Life on Jan. 18 at the Paley Center. The film will be released nationally on Jan. 20. The documentary is the brainchild of award-winning filmmaker Dori Berinstein, who produced and directed award-winning documentaries Gotta Dance and Show Business: The Road to Broadway.
This Channing doc boasts an all-star cast of show business veterans such as Lily Tomlin, Tippi Hedren, Bruce Vilanch, JoAnne Worley, Barbara Walters, Phyllis Diller, Tyne Daly, Chita Rivera, Debbie Reynolds, Rich Little, Jerry Herman, Tommy Tune, the late Betty Garrett, and others.
Carol Channing is truly a Broadway and screen legend, and celebrated her 90th birthday last year. It is fitting that Tomlin would host this premiere as she is also a legend, and hosted the world premiere last January of Elephants and Man: A Litany of Tragedy for my screening series “Kat Kramer’s Films That Change the World.” In addition, she appeared as a “special guest” for the world premiere of Teach Your Children Well. She is the most gracious host, as I can speak from experience, and it will be a rare treat to see them together.
One of the most admirable qualities about Carol Channing is that she and her husband Harry Kullijian founded Channing Arts in 2005, “with the hopes of bringing the importance of arts education to the general public, provide music instruments for underfunded public schools, and scholarships for California State University students.”
This is one of Carol Channing’s greatest contributions, besides being one of the world’s most celebrated entertainers.
Live your dreams…
