One of the ways the world can change for the better, is to elevate the consciousness of socially significant films—something our winner of the “Making a Positive Difference” Award, has taken to new heights. Actress, singer, journalist and producer, Kat Kramer, founded Kat Kramer’s Films That Change the World to showcase motion pictures that raise awareness about important social issues. In doing so, she is following the path of her late father, the legendary producer/director Stanley Kramer, who was known for taking artistic and financial chances by making movies about controversial subjects.

Recently, Kat celebrated her film series’ fifth anniversary by presenting a one night only screening of the North American Premiere of FALLOUT, the critically acclaimed documentary film about Nuclear Holocaust. FALLOUT explores the mythology and reality of international bestselling novelist’s, Nevil Shute’s On The Beach and Stanley Kramer’s film adaptation of the novel, which was filmed in Melbourne, Australia in 1959, starring Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner.

Previous selections in Kat’s screening series have included; Teach Your Children Well, which deals with the growing problem of bullying in schools; The Cove, the Academy Award-winning documentary film that exposed the slaughter of dolphins in Japan; Elephants and Man: A Litany of Tragedy, concerning the suffering of elephants in captivity; and Barbra Streisand’s Yentl, which focused attention on women’s equality.

Palm Springs will be graced with a preview of Kat’s new one woman show “My Duet with Mick,” on the weekend of March 22nd at the Azul Tapas Lounge at 369 North Palm Canyon Drive. This star-studded weekend also includes Lily Tomlin’s performance at the McCallum Theater on March 21st. On that same weekend, Stanley Kramer will be honored posthumously with a star on the Walk of Stars in front of Azul Tapas Lounge.

Kat forges her own truly amazing path while following in her late father’s footsteps – a path of social consciousness. She is an inspiration and a motivator for each of us to contribute something that makes the world better for all. Stanley Kramer and the late Katharine Hepburn, Kat’s godmother, for whom she was named, would indeed be proud.
